New Ac compressor clutch slipping?

01' Taurus, after spending couple of hundred of dollars on fixing ac on my car , just after 3 days clutch is slipping on a brand new compressor. I took my car back to the shop and they will replace the compressor as its under the warranty. They said it must be a bad unit. Now is that possible or they might have messed something up?
